North to Alaska
Marty and I recently returned from a trip to Alaska. It was our first time going there and it was also the first time either of us took a cruise. What an incredible experience.
Well-Being Shouldn’t Be a To-Do List
Somewhere along the way, “well-being” became a project. We often mistake well-being for something we have to earn or achieve. We imagine it as a checklist: eat right, exercise, meditate, sleep eight hours.
The Healing Power of Small Joys
Marty and I just came back from our vacation in Alaska. It was the first time either of us had been to the state and it was the first time we took a cruise. And I gotta say, BOTH WERE INCREDIBLE!
Relax, it’s August
By late August, most gardens look like they’ve just come back from a long road trip: a little dusty, rumpled, and in need of a nap.
Another Big Reason Why So Many People Are Wired, Tired, and Just Plain Messed Up
People’s connection to nature has declined by more than 60% since 1800, almost exactly mirroring the disappearance of nature words such as river, moss and blossom from books, according to a study.
Wonders of the Human Body
The human body is a masterpiece of design and functionality. Each heartbeat, every action, every breath, every thought, and every memory is a finely tuned orchestra of organs, tissues, and processes working together in perfect harmony, always hard at work, always carrying us through every nanosecond of every day.
Earthly Wonders
Fast Rockin’ Day and Night: Earth rotates on its axis, completing one full rotation every 24 hours. This rotation is responsible for our day-and-night cycles. Earth also rotates fast-like, 1,000-miles-per-hour fast.
The Wonder of Plants
While gardeners and nature lovers appreciate the beauty and enormous environmental contributions plants offer our world, many others still see them as lesser cousins to their counterparts in the animal kingdom.
A Universe of Wonders
Consider that at this very moment, you are standing on a rock that is spinning on its axis at approximately 1,000 miles per hour, hurtling through space at 67,000 miles per hour, while it orbits a star. Yet, you can’t feel a thing.
It’s Trivia Tuesday
My upcoming book shares fun facts and trivia about many of the wonders in our world we often don’t appreciate or even consider. So, in honor of the book's official launch on August 12th, (holy crap – that’s only a week away!), here are a few gems from the various chapters.
Just When You Think You’ve Seen It All – There’s Red Lightning
So yesterday, I posted a short video of a crazy storm we recently had in Northern Kentucky. Being part of Dixie Alley, I’m used to seeing some whopper, scary storms. But this one was different – very different - for a couple of reasons.
